Presented by: Thecia Jenkins

Time: 9:30pm - 12:30pm CST

On average a survivor of domestic violence will leave and return to the abusive partner approximately seven to eleven times. For those working with survivors to support them; this can be disconcerting and frustrating. The reality is that the decision to leave is a process that is just as frustrating and daunting for the survivor. It is a process of shifting mindset and battling uncertainty.

This program provides insight into the process of change and strategies to support the survivor on the road to "moving on" and taking back their lives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to discuss the stages of change for the survivor.
  • Participants will be able to discuss strategies to coach the survivor through each stage to build self-efficacy.
  • Participants will be able to discuss the intersection of the trauma experienced and the decision to "move on" and the factors associated with healing and pursuing a post traumatic growth mindset.

Benefits:

  • Establish rapport with survivors so that they are open to transparency with you as the helper on the journey to "moving on."
  • Implementing the process of change to work with survivors and provide support.
  • Explore policies and procedures within organizations and programs to identify innovative ways to work with survivors.

If you register for this training, you must attend for the entire training.
