As we welcome Andrew to Plano, Texas for the Female Survivors of Violence Conference, we are pleased to bring you a unique opportunity to share his expertise on mass violence and its effect on communities by offering this special, full-day workshop for only $99 to enhance your conference experience.
This presentation will explore the complex relationship between community violence and violence originating in the home. Incorporating case study examples of serial killers and mass violence incidents, the presenter will highlight common trends among mass violence perpetrators such as family violence and adverse childhood experiences. Participants will also understand how, reciprocatively, exposure to community violence can increase risk for abuse in the home, perpetuating a cycle of violence. Other topics incorporated into this discussion will include the impact of domestic violence on children, emotional maltreatment, the somatic effects of witnessing violence, animal cruelty, and teen suicide as well as prevention, intervention, and appropriate support systems.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe long-term emotional harm often experienced by children in abusive homes.Â
- Recognize reported connections between perpetration of family violence and perpetration of mass shootings.Â
- Outline key concepts to improving physical and mental health outcomes for children exposed to family violence.Â
- List ways all disciplines can better work together to address violence occurring both in the home and in the community.Â
- Describe how better understanding and addressing the connection between mass shootings and domestic violence may reduce the likelihood of future mass shootings.
