This training focuses on various aspects of elder abuse, an understudied form of family violence. Topics include predicting risk for elder abuse through the Opportunity to Abuse Theory, forms of elder abuse, victim and perpetrator demographics, the physical and emotional effects of experiencing elder abuse, elder abuse in rural communities, animal cruelty and elder abuse, how elder abuse impacts children in the home, and improving efforts to detect and prevent elder abuse.


Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the various forms of elder abuse.  

  • Recognize the physical and emotional effects of elder abuse victimization.  

  • List risk factors for elder abuse perpetration.  

  • Describe how acts of elder abuse also affect children in the home. 


If you register for this training, you must attend for the entire training.

About Our Speaker:

Andrew Campbell is an expert on family violence and the associated risks of harm for adults, children, and animals residing in homes where this violence occurs. Andrew has a master’s degree in Public Health and has given over 250 family violence presentations for multidisciplinary groups across the United States and around the world. His many publications over the last several years include papers cited by the FBI, CDC, United Nations, and in over 1,600 international academic papers and research studies. Andrew is the author of the books, "Not Without My Pet: Understanding the Importance of Pets to Victims of Domestic Violence” and "Taking Back What Abuse Took: A Public Health Based Approach to Healing from Abuse".
