When there is violence in an intimate partner relationship, the risk of serious harm to the victim/survivor and others must be considered. Victims/survivors may become involved with the criminal justice system and/or the family court system. This can be frightening, stressful, confusing, and overwhelming, especially as they attempt to navigate the crisis in their lives. This webinar will provide an overview of the criminal justice and family court systems, relevant laws, and resources these systems can provide. Helping professionals will gain an understanding of these systems and options for advocating for clients in these circumstances.
Learning Objectives:
Upon Completion of this Webinar, participants will be able to
- Recognize where victims/survivors may interface with the criminal justice system and the basics of how the criminal justice and family court systems operate.
- Identify relevant Texas laws related to intimate partner violence.
- Understand the benefits and limitations of involvement with the criminal justice system for victims/survivors and the risks associated with these benefits and limitations.
If you register for this training, you must attend for the entire training.
*Partial CEs will not be provided.*
