This course equips professionals with essential tools and techniques to deliver death notifications with sensitivity, clarity, and professionalism. Participants will explore best practices for preparation, delivery, and follow-up, while learning to address the emotional needs of survivors. Real-world scenarios and expert guidance help build confidence in managing this difficult responsibility with empathy and respect. The course also addresses procedures for unattended deaths, ensuring support and dignity for both the deceased and their loved ones.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Apply best practices for preparing, delivering, and following up on death notifications.
Recognize and respond to the emotional needs of survivors with empathy and professionalism.
Demonstrate appropriate procedures for managing unattended deaths until the funeral home arrives.
Uphold the dignity of the deceased and their survivors during death notification and post-notification care.

About Our Speaker:
Roya Williamson, Victim Services Coordinator, started with the San Marcos Police Department in June 2007. She is a member of the Hays County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), the Hays County Child Fatality Review Team and the Hays County Regional Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team. Prior to her employment with the Police Department, she served the San Marcos and Hays County community as the Assistant Director of the Hays Caldwell Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
