Women Veterans often carry the compounded weight of moral injury—deep psychological distress caused by perceived violations of their moral or ethical code— and experiences of gender-based violence, including military sexual trauma and intimate partner violence. These overlapping challenges can profoundly impact their mental health, sense of identity, and ability to heal. This engaging and experiential session will delve into the unique intersection of moral injury and gender-based violence in Women Veterans, offering participants an

opportunity to explore this topic through real-world case studies, small group discussions, and role-play exercises.

Attendees will gain insights into culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care models and participate in guided mindfulness and reflective exercises to better understand and address the needs of this population. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with practical tools and strategies to foster resilience, empowerment, and healing in the Women Veterans they serve.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the overlapping effects of moral injury and gender-based violence on Women Veterans’ mental health and well-being.

  • Apply trauma-informed and culturally sensitive care strategies through role-play.

  • Create a practical action plan to support Women Veterans using holistic, community-based interventions.
