Description: The aftermath of the recent election and the rapidly changing developments that followed have left many individuals struggling to cope, with fears around issues such as: their immigration status, their children’s safety, the legality of their marriage, their access to healthcare, and more. This can lead to anxiety, depression, strained relationships, estrangement, and post-traumatic stress. These issues frequently surface in therapy sessions and many individuals are specifically looking for clinicians who are comfortable, willing, and able to discuss these topics. But many clinicians fear these discussions, wondering if it constitutes “talking about politics”, and whether they should just steer clear. This workshop is designed to equip clinicians with practical tools and insights to support clients during this turbulent time while remaining aligned with their respective Codes of Ethics.
Learning Objectives:
Explore strategies for navigating politically charged topics in therapy.
Learn about how their own feelings about these topics might affect their interactions with clients
Gain a deeper understanding of ethical considerations specific to post-election challenges.
