"The Formula for Domestic Violence: Digital Media, Sexual Violence and Our Youth"

Time: 8:30 am - 10 am CDT

Modern-day technology and social media have made it possible to connect to people and information easily.  However, this easy access to the information highway has created unintended consequences for our youth.  This session will explore how the effect that easy accessibility, particularly accessibility to porn, has on teens, and how it relates to domestic violence and sexual assault on a systemic and cultural level.  The answer is not to forbid youth from engaging in social media or banning popular platforms—but by fostering emotional awareness so that youth can identify emotions and set healthy boundaries (online and in real life).

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn meaningful ways to talk about cyber safety with youths and the adults in their lives (i.e., parents, teachers, counselors, etc.)

  • Explore how the digital world can be a tool to connect with youth.

  • Walk away with tools for safeguarding social media, including algorithms to show appropriate and uplifting content.

"Teen Dating Abuse and Healthy Relationships"

The session incorporates discussions, video clips, games, and activities, making it adaptable for both small classes and larger groups.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the dynamics, characteristics, and forms of abuse in teen dating relationships.
