This training explores the far-reaching effects of crime victimization and violence against women on individuals and the community. Participants will examine the ripple effects of trauma, understand the core principles of trauma-informed care as they apply to our agency's work, and recognize common psychological and behavioral responses to trauma in clients.


Learning Objectives: 

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe at least three key ways in which trauma from crime victimization and violence against women impacts the community, including erosion of trust, strain on resources, and intergenerational cycles.

  • Explain the core principles of trauma-informed care (Safety, Trustworthiness & Transparency, Choice & Collaboration, Empowerment & Mutuality, and Cultural Humility) and discuss their practical application within our agency's interactions with clients and colleagues. 

  • Recognize and describe at least three common psychological and behavioral responses to trauma in individuals, such as re-experiencing symptoms, avoidance, negative alterations in cognition and mood, and hyperarousal.

About Our Speaker:

Manuela Aguilar is licensed professional counselor passionate about supporting  as they clients navigate the complexities of life and mental health. She believes in the power of therapy as a tool for transformation. Her therapeutic approach is CBT with a specialization is working with victims of crime as the Staff Therapist at Trauma Support Services.

Her experience includes working with clients facing a variety of concerns, such as anxiety and depression, relationship challenges, trauma and abuse, self-esteem, and providing group therapy services.
